early life
Music has always been a part of the Didia family. Omah Lay’s grandfather was the drummer for Highlife band mainstay Celestine Ukwu. So when Stanley decided to pursue a career in music, his parents were not surprised.
Born in Port Harcourt on May 19, 1997, he grew up on a Marine Corps base and was no stranger to the hardscrabble life of Philippine cities. As a teenager, he began to create. Eager to become the next big rapper, he nicknamed himself “Lil King” and thrilled his neighbors with his improvisational rap songs.

He lost interest in rap music and decided to switch to music production and started working as a backup for a few friends who were producers. Within a few months, he had learned the skills of rapping and became a professional. He started working with emerging artistes in Port Harcourt to produce good music.
However, his heart was drawn back to the swinger life and he decided to give it another try. Believing he had the creative urge, he sat down and wrote the songs “Do Not Disturb” and “Hello Brother”, recorded them and released them to the public. This was in 2019. By then, he had rebranded and settled on the stage name – Omah Lay.
The songs were so successful that they caught the attention of several record labels, who became interested in his work. He eventually chose KeyQaad Records, a Lagos-based label; thus he had to leave the city to pursue his dream.

After moving to Lagos, Omar Rai began to seriously create music that his growing fan base would enjoy and relate to. The song catapulted Omar Rai to fame and he became one of the shining stars of Nigerian Afropop and Afrobeats music.
Instead of letting his fire of success die, he served the world with his debut EP, Get Layd, in May 2020. The project reaffirmed predictions that Omah Lay was destined for greater success in the industry. The songs received widespread airplay on popular radio and television stations in the country.
As his fame spread across the continent, he became the go-to artist for brands or music lovers to hire to perform at shows and concerts. Due to his unique singing style and lyricism, top music artists have featured him in their songs. In 2020, he collaborated with Olamide on the hit single “Infinity”. He caught the attention of Ghanaian songstress Gyakie and became a guest artist on the remix of her hit song “Forever”. The song was released in March 2021.
In December 2020, he was nominated for the Next Rated Artist award at the 14th Headies Music Awards. He beat other top contenders Bella Shmurda, Tems, and Oxlade to win the award in 2021. As part of the gift prize, he took home a brand new car.
Before 2020 came to an end, his second EP, What Have We Done, dominated music radio stations for weeks.
