Her parents, Queen and Dr. Frank Megbele, were Itskiri and both were academics. Omawunmi was the 12th of 15 children.
Omawumi attended the Demonstration Secondary School, College of Education, Warri and later studied law at the Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma, Edo State, Nigeria.
