Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo (born January 1, 1976) is a Nigerian evangelical pastor and popular cleric.

He currently serves as the senior pastor of the Pentecostal Ministry, Commonwealth Assembly of Zion (COZA).

The Church has five branches (nicknamed Campuses) in major cities in Africa and Asia.

He founded the church in 1999 when he was just 23 years old and with the help of his wife, Modele, they have grown the congregation to thousands of followers.

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo is known for his inspirational sermons and great fashion sense. He is known in some places as Pastor Gucci.

Early life

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was born on January 1, 1976 into the prominent Fatoyinbo family.

Because he was born on New Year’s Day, his parents named him Abiodun, which translates to Born on a Festival Day in English.

He is a Yoruba man from North Central, Nigeria. He was born and raised in Ilorin by his parents. He is the first child in the family and has three siblings.

Despite being taught good morals by his parents, Biodun joined a secret society while in college. He and his followers terrorized students and staff at the university. This led the university administration to revoke his admission and expel him.

In an effort to achieve his dream of becoming a bachelor, he enrolled at the University of Benin. It was at this university that his life took a new turn as he dedicated his life to Christ. He became fervent in his faith by serving God wholeheartedly. He was a member of the church choir where he played the drums and guitar.

In 1999, he received a command from God to start a ministry and the Commonwealth Assembly of Zion (COZA) was born. The church was established in Ilorin.

Education

Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo attended top primary and secondary schools in Ilorin and has his Senior Secondary Certificate and West African School Certificate to prove it.

He briefly attended the University of Ilorin, Kwara State. However, he obtained his first degree from the University of Benin, Edo State.

Career

Since 1999, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo has been going strong in his ministry. His ministry currently has five branches (campuses) in Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. The church headquarters is in Asokoro Extension, Abuja, where he and his wife, Modele, serve as Senior Pastors. With a congregation of over twenty thousand members, COZA is one of the largest Pentecostal ministries in Nigeria.

Apart from Abuja, other campuses are located in Lagos, Port Harcourt, Ilorin and Dubai. The church is considered as one of the leading new generation churches in the country. The ministry is quite popular for its many humanitarian programs in line with the biblical belief of showing love to all. Under the leadership of Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo, the church operates an NGO called COZA Care Foundation. The foundation is responsible for organized programs such as Jesus Paid It All: Shop For Free (Yard Sale); and Leprosarium Outreach.

Previously, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo and church members visited a boys’ rehabilitation facility in Oregun, Lagos; organized a free medical testing outreach program for residents of Irewole Community, Lagos; visited inmates at Ikoyi Prison to present relief supplies; and visited Oke Kura and Mandala prisons in Ilorin.

Being a lover of gospel music, he was inspired to form two groups which he named – The Avalanche and The Gratitude. The first group was formed in 2008 while the second group was formed in 2016. The mission of The Gratitude is to create mainstream music with a spiritual message. It is a combination of gospel and pop music. While The Avalanche’s mission is to write and perform spiritually-based praise and worship songs. The Avalanche has had the opportunity to perform at several Christian gatherings around the world. They have performed gospel songs alongside artists such as Tasha Cobbs, Tye Tribbett, and Don Moen.

Gratitude became a household name after they released their single Rabababa-Eh. The single became one of the go-to praise songs in Nigerian churches. In recognition of their good work, the group won the Choir/Group Of The Year award at the UK Gospel Touch Music Awards.

Argumentative

In 2019, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo was the subject of heated controversy when he was accused of sexual assault by Busola Dakolo, wife of singer-songwriter Timi Dakolo.

She made the allegation in June 2019, and it sparked a series of online protests and counter-protests. These protests forced Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo to resign as church leader until August 2019. Ms Busola filed a lawsuit against him but it was dismissed by an Abuja court in November 2019.
