Paul Simon was born on October 13, 1941 in Newark, New Jersey, to Hungarian Jewish parents.
His father, Louis, was a college professor and double bass player in a dance band, while his mother, Belle, was an elementary school teacher.
Growing up in Queens, New York, Paul was exposed to music and diverse cultures from an early age. He met Art Garfunkel in elementary school, and they began singing together when he was 13.
Paul wrote his first song, “For my girl” and performed the song with Garfunkel.
