Faris was born on October 26, 1975 in Jackson, Michigan, where she attended Jackson Christian School. She graduated from Cedarville University in 1997 with a degree in broadcasting, with a concentration in television production.
After graduating, Faris held several media-related jobs including an executive position at Mills/James Productions in Columbus, Ohio. She took a radio sales job, due to limited television opportunities.
She eventually found work for a year as a production assistant at WKEF/WRGT and then worked as an occasional reporter and anchor. From 2002 to 2005, she was a weekend sports anchor and weekday sports anchor at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.
In December 2011, it was announced that Faris had been hired by ABC’s news division, ABC News. She made her debut on the network for World News Now and America This Morning on January 2, 2012. During this time, she occasionally appeared as a substitute anchor on Good Morning America as well as a correspondent.
