early life and education
Margaret Ann Lipton was born on August 30, 1946 in New York City, New York, USA. She is the daughter of corporate lawyer Harold Lipton and artist Rita Benson. Lipton attended several schools while growing up, including Lawrence Junior High School and the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan, where she honed her acting skills at an early age.
Lipton had two brothers: Robert Lipton (who also became an actor) and Kenneth Lipton. She is an Ashkenazi Jew and a Christian.

Peggy Lipton began her modeling career when her father secured her first modeling job in New York, while her mother encouraged her to take acting classes. At just 15 years old, Lipton became a model for the Ford Agency and achieved early success in the field.
