He received the Parade Magazine Award, where he averaged 36.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.8 blocks, 3.9 steals and 6.2 assists. He continued his education at the University of Memphis. Penny was drafted by the Golden State Warriors and began his NBA career in 1993.
Career
Penny Hardaway began his golden career as a draft pick of the Golden State Warriors. He was traded to the Orlando Magic in 1993, where he started his career with the Most Important Schick Rookie Game MVP award. He also had tremendous talent for entertaining.
A basketball movie, Blue Chips, featured Penny Hardaway and his co-star Shaquille O’Neal as the main actors in 1994. He is the only NBA player to ever average 20 points and 5 assists.
In 1996, he won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics and averaged 9 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. In 1998, he suffered a serious knee injury and had to undergo surgery. He was then traded to the Phoenix Suns in 1999.
There, he averaged 16.9 points, 5.3 assists and 5.8 rebounds but then underwent two more surgeries in the 2000-01 NBA season. From 2004-06, he played for the New York Knicks and signed with the Miami Heat and was eventually released by the company in 2007.
