Early life and education
Peter Kay was born and came into the world on July 2, 1973 in Bolton in Lancashire, England.
He was born to a couple; Deirdre O’Neill (mother) and the late Michael Kay (father), a designer. His mother, a relative of Irish descent and a devout Roman Catholic, raised Peter Kay with the same confidence after his father’s death.
He attended Saint Joseph RC High School and went on to study at the University of Liverpool, where he focused on Drama, Theatre Appreciation and English Literature. He then moved to the Aldephi Campus School of Media, Music and Performance at the University of Salford.
Peter Kay also received an honorary degree in Arts from the University of Salford in 2016 in recognition of his significant work in the Entertainment industry.
Career
Peter Kay has always been attractive and made people laugh since he was a child. He was essential to his academic performance at his school “The Wizard of Oz”. After school, Peter Kay worked in many different places, working at a warehouse, Bingo Hall, a rolling paper factory, a gas station, etc.
In 1996, he auditioned for the North West Comedian of the Year Awards, when he was still new to the industry and had little experience. He did well and won the award. After winning the audition, he began working as a low-budget professional comedian. It was through his parodies that he landed his first gig. He also won the Channel 4 competition “So You Think You Are Funny” in 1997.
