Peter Tierney Murrell has extensive experience in political engagement and public relations. Prior to his political career, Murrell worked as a public relations officer for the Church of Scotland for four years. He joined the Scottish National Party (SNP) in 1989 and was elected Membership Convenor of the Peterhead branch.
In 1992 he acted as election agent for candidates in two local constituencies and in 1993 he was reappointed as secretary of the Banff and Buchan branches of the Citizens Advice Bureau.
Murrell also worked as a research assistant to SNP leader Alex Salmond during the 1994 general election, during which time he gained notoriety when he was “bombed” by a seagull while taking voters to the polls.
Peter Tierney Murrell has a long career in politics, particularly within the Scottish National Party (SNP). In his early years, Murrell worked as a parliamentary assistant and constituency researcher for several SNP members, including Alex Salmond and Dr Allan Macartney. He was also the party’s fisheries spokesman.
However, by 1999 Murrell moved on to work for MEP Ian Hudghton, continuing his involvement with the SNP. Despite Murrell’s past roles within the party, his current position and relationship with the SNP is perhaps clearer.
