Early life and education
Petronella Berger, also known as Petra Berger, was born on October 23, 1965 in Amstelveen, the Netherlands.
She was born into a musical family but did not pursue a career in music until much later in life. She graduated from high school in 1982 and went to work for a computer company.
Petra Berger formed a band with three employees to entertain themselves by playing music at the computer company’s annual party. However, later that night, she realized that singing was her true calling.
Although TheCityCeleb has not yet confirmed the names and identities of her parents, she has an older sister named Lida Berger, who is also a singer.
Little is known about her educational background, but she has indicated that she graduated from high school in 1982, when she was 17 years old. After graduation, she found a job at a computer company.
Personal life
Petra Berger is happily married to Dutch arranger, keyboardist and producer Jeroen Englebert, with whom she has two lovely children.
Petra Berger gave birth to her first child, Boris Englebert, in 1997, and her second child, Babette Englebert, in 1999.
Profession
In 1987, Petra Berger and her sister Lida Berger participated in Henny Huisman’s TV show Soundmixshow and made it to the final with the song “I Know Him So Well”.
Immediately after the show, they were offered a record deal under the name Chess. They then had a minor hit with the song Never Change a Winning Team, which was said to have been written by Jeroen Englebert (Petra Berger’s husband).
One of their singles was titled “Make My Day and Promise Not to Tell”, which was released shortly after recording “Never Change a Winning Team”. On the other hand, their sudden fame had a negative impact on her sister Lyda Berger, who loved singing but was uncomfortable with the constant attention and scrutiny that came with being a celebrity.
In 1992, Petra Berger ended her career with Chess to focus on honing her musical theatre skills. She studied singing, piano, dance and acting with a number of instructors. Les Misérables was her first musical instructor.
Petra Berg was unfortunately eliminated in the final of the musical Cyrano de Bergerac, which was her second audition for a musical. She was offered the lead role but turned it down for unknown reasons. She later auditioned for The Phantom of the Opera, but ultimately did not appear in it.
