“Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis” (Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis), also known as PSO2 NGS, is a multiplayer real-time third-person open world MMORPG developed by Sega Sapporo Studio and published by Sega. It is part of the Phantasy Star series. The game was originally released in Japan on July 4, 2012, and later expanded to other regions.

Asiasoft released an Asian version for the Asian region on May 29, 2014, but unfortunately, the game was shut down on May 26, 2017. The game was also launched in Hong Kong and Taiwan via Game Orange, but faced a similar fate and was shut down in 2017. Sega partnered with Microsoft and took three years to release the game globally through the Microsoft Store on May 27, 2020.

Later that year, on August 5, the game was also released on Steam. While the PlayStation Vita version was only released in Japan, support for the platform ended in September 2020. A major update was released on June 9, 2021, launching Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis.
This update brings a new world setting and open world gameplay that is different from the original PSO2. As of the June 7, 2023 update, PSO2 was separated from the game and is now available as free DLC. As an online multiplayer game, PSO2 NGS is updated regularly, with new content being released almost every week.
The original PSO2 can be accessed after clearing the Prologue in the NGS. Players can access the Ryuker device from the character select menu or after activating it from the hub city. Cross-platform play is supported between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players on global servers, and between PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch players on Japanese servers. It should be noted that the global servers and Japanese servers are separate, and players on one server cannot play or interact with players on the other server.
