Philip Rosenthal was born on January 27, 1960 in Queens, New York, to Helen and Max Rosenthal. He spent most of his youth in New City, New York, located in Rockland County.

He belongs to one Jewish family and he attended Clarkstown North High School, where he participated in the school’s drama club. He graduated from high school on a scholarship in 1977 and from Hofstra University in 1981.

Career

Phil went on to work as a security guard at the Metropolitan Museum of Art immediately after graduating. Phil began his career as a performer before shifting his focus to producing.

His early writing and producing credits include Craig T. Nelson’s Coach and Baby Talk. He became famous as the creator of the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond.

He was in 30 Rock, Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Simpsons Movie, and hosted the hit PBS television show I’ll Have What Phil’s Have and later appeared in the remake titled Somebody Feed Phil on Netflix in 2018.

Phil has appeared in several films during his career, including Spanglish and The Simpsons Movie. Rosenthal is the author of the book You’re Lucky You’re Funny: How Life Becomes a Sitcom published in 2006.
