Early life and education
Pinarayi Vijayan was born on 24 May 1945 in Kannur, India. He was raised by his parents, Mundayil Koran and Kalyani Koran. There is no information about his siblings.
Vijayan started his studies in school, followed by a year of working as a handloom weaver. He then went on to complete his pre-university course at Brennen Government College in Thalassery and eventually completed his Bachelor of Economics from the same college.
Career
Pinarayi Vijayan’s political career began when he joined the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and was elected to the Kannur district committee.
In 1970, he won his first Kerala Assembly election from the Koothuparamba constituency, defeating Thayath Raghavan of the PSP. Two years later, he became a member of the Kannur district secretariat for the CPI(M).

In 2021, Vijayan not only led his party to regain power with a new record but also won the Kerala Legislative Assembly elections from the DHARMADAM constituency of Kannur district. He was sworn in for a second term as Chief Minister of the Government of Kerala on 20 May 2021.
