Runway project eliminated
Project Runway Season 4 showcases the return of season winner Christian Siriano, who has served as a mentor to the contestants since Season 17. The judging panel, consisting of Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell and Elaine Welteroth, also returned to evaluate the creations for each challenge.
Guest judges include Alicia Silverstone, Billy Porter, Zac Posen, Stacey Bendet, Wes Gordon, Lena Waithe and other luminaries from the fashion and media industries, adding additional expertise and commentary to the competition.
The contestants’ journey unfolds through a series of design challenges, with each elimination revealing who fails to live up to expectations. Here’s a rundown of the eliminations so far:
- Nora Pagel (14th) Challenge: “Redemption!” (Episode 2 – Review) Mission: Reimagine previously low-scoring or eliminated designs. Judges’ Feedback: Brandon and Nina highlighted the fabric and color choices. Lack of boldness in design.
- Mila Hermanovski (13th) Challenge: “Playing with Fashion” (Episode 3 – Review) Task: Create a whimsical design using unconventional materials from FAO Schwarz. Judges’ Feedback: The action was appreciated, but the design lacked story and clear point of view.
- Viktor Luna (12th) Challenge: “Coronation Day” (Episode 4 – Review) Task: Collaborate to design a dress fit for royalty. Judges’ feedback: Too much accessories and lack of finishing, especially the metallic bodice, obscured the elegance of the dress.
- Hester Sunshine (11th) Challenge: “Seeing Red” (Episode 5 – Review) Task: Use the same red fabric bolts to design any look. Judges’ feedback: Sloppy pleats, uneven seams, and an overall unfinished feel. A situation where too much is happening at once.
- Kayne Gillaspie (10th) Challenge: “It’s Totally ’90s” (Episode 6 – Review) Mission: Design a cohesive mini-collection inspired by ’90s fashion. Judges’ Feedback: The mix of patterns and design choices was criticized, especially the lace covering the necklace.
- Fabio Costa (9th place) Challenge: “Fashion, Inside Out” (Episode 7 – Review) Task: Artisan couture look highlighting underwear. Judges’ Feedback: Visual clutter due to fabric choice, excessive design elements, and need for better editing.
- Rami Kashou (TBD: SIRIANO SAVE!) Challenge: “Uncut Hems” (Episode 8 – RECAP) Mission: Design a high fashion look using denim. Judges’ Feedback: Mixed opinions on the cohesion of the design, with some elements appearing dated, unfinished or disjointed.
- Anna Zhou (8th) Challenge: “Below Decked Out” (Episode 9 – Review) Mission: Create stylish yet functional uniforms for the cast of “Below Deck”. Judges’ Feedback: Costume sagging due to radio placement, fit and proportion issues, and doubts about the authority of the uniform.
- Kara Saun (7th Place) Challenge: “Freedom” (Episode 10 – Review) Task: Design anything they choose. Feedback from the judges: Mixed feelings about the design elements, praising the creativity but making suggestions for reining in the drama of haute couture.
- Korto Momolu (6th Place) Challenge: “Double Bind” (Episode 11 – Review) Task: Merge conflicting design styles into a single look. Judges’ feedback: Opinions were divided on the trousers and jackets, with fabric prints and fit being the focus of criticism.
During these challenges and eliminations, contestants face scrutiny from judges and pressure to embody creativity, innovation and consistency in their designs. The journey continues as the remaining designers strive to prove themselves in the ever-evolving world of fashion.
