Early life
Rajon Pierre Rondo was born in Louisville, Kentucky on February 22, 1986 and has three siblings. He had little to no contact with his biological father, who left him when he was 7 years old. His mother raised all four children alone. Rondo initially showed interest in soccer, but his mother pushed him to play basketball because it would help him get rid of his skinny body.
Rondo seriously pursued basketball and attended Louisville’s Eastern High School. His three years there earned him a spot on All-State honors and as the 7th Region Player of the Year.
Rondo then transferred to Virginia Oak Hill Academy his senior year and broke the record of 303 assists averaging a double-double. His 55-point game in high school is the 2nd highest all-time in Oak Hill Academy basketball history.
In 2004, Rondo was nominated to the McDonald’s All-America Team and also participated in the Jordan Capital Classic game. Rondo then joined the University of Kentucky, where he played against Louisville, South Carolina and Central Florida.
But Kentucky did not make it to the NCAA Tournament finals. However, he set two records in Kentucky. He qualified for the United States men’s national basketball team, under 21, and they won the gold medal at the Global Games in Texas.

Rondo was soon drafted into the NBA and so he spent his final two seasons at the University of Kentucky. He was originally selected by the Phoenix Suns and was the 21st overall pick in the 2006 NBA Draft.
He was then traded to the Boston Celtics, along with Brian Grant, to the Cleveland Cavaliers. During his time as a rookie, Rondo only played a support role and split time with Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair.
His debut in his rookie season did not receive much recognition or a starting position and he only appeared in 25 games. It was only midway through the season that he received a spot and got more playing time.

He injured his ankle during the playoffs but quickly recovered to support the Celtics and defeat the Lakers for the NBA championship. He was named first team All-Star and won several franchise records the following year.
But the Boston Celtics lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the finals. However, Rondo had some injuries from the 2010 to 2011 season and they asked him to rest and rejuvenate. He was then transferred to the Dallas Mavericks and had difficulty coping with his new teammates and had to leave suddenly. He moved on to play for the Sacramento Kings, where he played one season and signed with the Chicago Bulls.
Again, playing a short one-year stint, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans. He joined the Los Angeles Lakers when he found more security with them and won another NBA championship.
