The first half of his stage name translates to “powerful ruler” while the second half roughly translates to “wealth”. He has cited Don Jazzy, 2Baba, DJ Jimmy Jatt, Olamide and MI Abaga as his main musical inspirations.

His contract with Mavin Records came about after his brother submitted some of his songs to the label in an online talent search. Reekado Banks’s work was selected from over 5,000 entries and signed to Mavin Records.

When asked why he did so, he said, “It was just a higher level deal, I wanted to go somewhere else, and see further, just like I’ve seen further than I’ve seen before, I just need someone who can see as much, especially someone who’s been through it with other people (artists), but me and my brother are cool.”
