“Return 5 Legend of the Old Gods” walkthrough

Return 5 (The Elder Gods) is the fifth chapter of Saga Anderson’s story in Alan Wake 2. This chapter revolves around Saga’s mission to find Odin and Thor Anderson in the Valhalla sanatorium.

Light Falls – Arriving at Valhalla Sanatorium

Saga found himself in the forest outside the Falls of Light, near the bridge where Alan Wake was found unconscious. She could backtrack to the Edwood Inn Hotel, but it had been cleared. Saga still has her spiritual place, a comforting refuge.

Instead of going back, Saga decided to move on and learn more about the cult from Thor and Odin in the Valhalla sanatorium. Thor attempts to make a call but is interrupted due to some strange happenings at home.

New Case Files – Anderson Brothers

Saga receives new clues – more information about Thor and Odin. This will cause a new main case file to be opened. During a conversation in her mindland, she learned that Odin, like all the Andersons, had certain gifts.

Bright Falls Cult Hideout – The Woods

Saga discovers a cult hideout with a memory lock puzzle. By solving the problem, she obtained rifle ammunition, first aid, and hand flares. She also learns about a nursery rhyme that provides clues for where to place the doll.

Guangming Falls Nursery Rhyme-Campground

Following the instructions of the nursery rhyme, Saga successfully placed the doll and continued her journey.

Enter the Wellness Center

Saga needs to open the door to enter the health center and continue her search for Thor.

Health Center – Find Tor

Inside the health center, Sagar meets another patient, Gail. Gail has a creepy appearance and Saga must use her skills to defeat him.

After a series of events, Rose provides Saga with important information about entering the parallel dimension overlap. Saga learns that playing a specific song by the old god of Asgard is the key.

This set Saga on a new path, with knowledge and tools to tackle future challenges.

Survey Museum

Use Lolth’s keychain to open the Asgard Museum of the Old Gods. Inside, you’ll find a newspaper clipping and notice a missing frame of records, most likely the work of Cynthia Weaver. Analyze Odin to confirm that Cynthia possesses it. You’ll find the record in Cynthia’s room on the third floor, specifically in her bathtub. Add this information to your case file.

Collecting clues in the basement

The power goes out in Cynthia’s room, and Artie suggests checking the fuses in the basement. Go through the back garden to the basement. Unfortunately, Rose disappears and the taken creature emerges from the pond. Be ready to face them with your weapons. Find manuscript pages about Valhalla Sanatorium and Barry Wheeler’s involvement.

In the flooded basement, find the body of Mr. Vladimir Bloom, then continue to the large blue generator. Find the note about needing more fuses, then find the nearby manuscript page. Find the code for where the laundry room fuse is stored. Start the generator, replace the fuses, and provide power to the area. Turn on the projector and watch a disturbing movie.

Investigate Cynthia’s room

Once the lights come back on, head to the third floor and open Cynthia’s room. You will notice that all the light bulbs are destroyed. Examine Cynthia’s notes to learn the reason for her descent into madness. Investigate a heart box sent to Cynthia from Tor. Use analytics to learn more about Thomas Zane.

Get Angry Regret Log

In the bathroom, chase away the shadows and find a record of angry regret in the tub. Go back downstairs, face the Drowned, and play Saga’s song on the jukebox. It provides clues as to why Saga’s mother left.

Navigation overlap

Enter the overlap area from the pond. In the bunker-like area, find a note from “The Missing Body of Youth”. Follow the path, overcome obstacles, and avoid the Drowning Lady. Collect bolt cutters and fight the giant. Eventually, Cynthia is encountered in a challenging battle.

Defeat Cynthia

Cynthia attacks using water-based abilities and shadows. Use hand flares to fend her off and target her when she’s vulnerable. After a hard battle, she will be defeated. Exit the overlap area and witness the reunion of Saga and Tor.

In Alan Wake II, the gameplay is different from the first game. This is a survival horror game where you see the characters from the outside rather than from their perspective. You can play as Alan Wake or Saga Anderson in two separate stories. You can choose which story to play first, but some parts can only be played as Saga or Eren.

Both characters travel through different locations and fight enemies using guns and flashlights. Shining a flashlight on an enemy weakens them but drains their battery. You have to be careful how you use batteries and bullets to survive. When an enemy approaches, Allen or Saga can quickly dodge.

There is also a detective part in the game. When you play as Saga, you can pause the game and travel to a special place in her mind called the “Heartland.” It’s like a 3D menu where you can see Saga’s ideas. Here you connect clues on the board to solve the main mystery and get to know the characters.
