Rhenz Joseph Mamuyac Abando was born on March 11, 1998 in Santo Tomas, La Union, Philippines. He was raised by unnamed parents, along with his older brother Jorel. Abando attended the Philippine College of Science & Technology in Dagupan, where he played basketball for two years under former Letran Knight Chris Calaguio. He was then recruited by Coach Aldin Ayo to join the UST Growling Tigers in the UAAP.
Career
Abando’s basketball journey began at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers, where he helped the team reach the UAAP Season 82 finals. He then transferred to the Letran Knights, where his performance was impressive. earning him the NCAA Most Valuable Player (MVP) and the Season 97 Rookie of the Year award.
After success in college, Abando turned professional when he joined the Anyang Jung Kwan Jang Red Boosters in the Korean Basketball League (KBL). His contribution was key to the team winning the championship in 2023.
