Richard Hammond is an English journalist, television presenter, mechanic and writer.
He is best known for co-hosting BBC Two’s popular motoring television show Top Gear from 2002 to 2015 alongside Jeremy Clarkson and James May.
Hammond has also presented other successful shows, including Brainiac: Science Abuse, Total Wipeout and Richard Hammond’s Blast Lab.

Early life and education
Richard Mark Hammond, now 54, was born on December 19, 1969 in Solihull, West Midlands, England. He grew up in a family with a tradition in the Birmingham automotive industry.
His father was Alan Hammond, and his mother was Eileen Hammond. As a teenager, Richard moved with his family to Ripon, a cathedral town in North Yorkshire.
He attended Blossomfield Nursery School in Solihull before moving to Ripon Grammar School. After completing his education there, he attended Harrogate College of Arts and Technology from 1986 to 1988.

Hammond is married to Mindy Hammond, a writer for the Daily Express.
The couple have two daughters, Isabella and Willow, and have been together since they married in May 2002.
Career
After completing his studies, Hammond began his career as a radio presenter for various BBC stations. He became famous as a presenter on Radio Lancashire, where he interviewed motoring journalist Zogg Ziegler.
This led to him getting into television presenting and eventually landed him a role on Top Gear in 2002. Hammond is known as “Hamster” among fans and co-hosts because of his name and relatively small stature.
During his time on Top Gear, Hammond became a household name and amassed a huge fan base. His witty one-liners and fun personality made him a favourite with viewers.
