Rihanna to End 8-Year Hiatus With Major Project, Event in the Works: Report

Rihanna is reportedly working on her ninth studio album — eight years after her last release, 2016’s “Anti.”

In recent years, Rihanna has focused on her cosmetics and lingerie businesses, along with spending time with boyfriend A$AP Rocky and their two children, RZA and Riot Rose, due in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

But The Sun UK’s Jack Hardwick reported that the 36-year-old star is reportedly ending his eight-year hiatus from music and is planning to perform at the 2025 Glastonbury Festival. Music Times has been unable to independently verify this information.

“There’s been a joke about when Rihanna’s ninth album will be released, but the wait is finally over,” an unnamed “music insider” told the news agency.

While the “We Found Love” singer has collaborated with other artists on some of her recorded songs, she’s been able to explore a variety of genres to shape her musical style. However, sources claim Rihanna wants a completely different sound for her ninth album.

“She’s gone from pop to reggae to hip-hop to everything else. But because she wants it to sound fresh, and because of where Rihanna is in her life, pretty much everything is out,” the source confirmed.

Some of Rihanna’s unreleased songs were reportedly remastered and reused for the final iteration of the album, but most of the tracks were scrapped when she went back to the drawing board earlier this year, the source added.

“Rihanna has been back in the studio for a while now and things are finally working out,” the insider said.

The source notes that Rihanna typically releases her albums at the end of the year, but there is a possibility that the release could be pushed back to early 2025 due to slower vinyl production, which has become extremely popular in recent times.

Despite this potential delay, the event could very well coincide with Rihanna’s rumored world tour.

“Either way, 2025 is going to be the year she goes on a massive tour with Live Nation and yes, Glastonbury will be back,” the insider said.

The “Umbrella” hitmaker was reportedly set to make a surprise appearance at the 2023 Glastonbury festival, but plans were scrapped when she had to cancel due to her pregnancy with her first child, Riot Rose, who was due later that year.
