Early life and education
Sunak was born in Southampton on 12 May 1980 to an Indian father, Yashvir, a doctor, and a British mother, Usha, a pharmacist who owned a local pharmacy. His father, Yashvir, was born and raised in the Colony and Protectorate of Kenya, while Usha was born in Tanganyika (later part of Tanzania).
In the 1960s, his grandparents and their children moved to the UK from East Africa. Sunak worked as a waiter in a curry house in Southampton during his summer holidays as a teenager. He received his first degree from Lincoln College, Oxford, where he studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
He worked as an intern at the Conservative Campaign Headquarters during his time at the organization. He earned his MBA from Stanford University in 2006 while studying as a Fulbright fellow.
Career in business
From 2001 to 2004, Sunak worked as an analyst at Goldman Sachs. He then moved to hedge fund management firm The Children’s Investment Fund Management, where he rose to partner in 2006.

In 2014, he joined the Conservative Party and in 2015, he won the Richmond (Yorks) seat previously held by former Conservative Party leader Lord William Hague. Mr Sunak was also re-elected in 2017.
