Early life and education
Robert Kelly Thomas was born on February 14, 1972 in Landstuhl, Germany. His parents, Bill and Mamie Thomas, were both sergeants in the U.S. Army, and he grew up with his half-sister, Melissa, from his mother’s first marriage. Unfortunately, Thomas’ parents separated when he was two, so he spent most of his early years with his mother and sister.
Rob Thomas has an interesting educational background. He did attend Lake Brantley High School in Florida, but due to some personal difficulties, he dropped out before earning his diploma. However, that wasn’t the end of his educational path. Despite not having a formal college degree, he still pursued his love for music and eventually earned his General Educational Development certificate.
It’s worth noting that there’s another Rob Thomas who, in addition to being a musician, teaches at Berklee College of Music! While it’s easy to confuse the two online, it’s important to remember that they are two very different people.
