Born on July 6, 1963, at Addington Hospital in Durban, Robert McBride came from Wentworth, an apartheid neighborhood about 11 kilometers from Durban. His parents, Derrick McBride and Doris McBride, were teachers at Clairwood School.

Career

In 1986, Robert McBride held a leadership position in the armed wing of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) branch of the African National Congress (ANC). During this time, he staged an attack on a restaurant and bar in Durban. Unfortunately, the bombing resulted in the tragic deaths of 3 white women and the injuries of 69 others. Although there is widespread speculation that the attack was aimed at police, the veracity of these claims remains unclear.
