Rod Stewart has revealed playing Glastonbury would actually cost him money

Glastonbury is one of the biggest festivals in the world, but according to Rod Stewart, attending this festival doesn’t come without a price.

The iconic singer stopped by talkSPORT on November 27, where he told the hosts that he had not had time to consider whether or not to perform at the festival. He revealed that he accepted the opportunity “immediately”. However, this opportunity cost him dearly out of his own pocket.

“It would be a great honor, it would cost me a lot of money to do it – $300,000,” Stewart said.

“I had to bring all my bands back from America, of course Glastonbury didn’t pay for that,” he explains.

Stewart shared that he did not care how much it would cost, because participating in the festival was a great honor for him.

“But I don’t care if it costs me $1,00,000, I can still do it. It’s a great honor. It’s truly the greatest honor,” he said.

Stewart, 79, was announced by the festival as their first confirmed performer for 2025, taking over as a Legend on Sunday teatime.

“I’m proud, ready and more than capable of entertaining and delighting my friends at Glastonbury in June,” he said.

This will be Stewart’s first appearance at the festival since he headlined the Pyramid stage in 2002. There have been a number of other iconic legends who have played the slot over the years. Some past performers include: Shania Twain, Diana Ross and Dolly Parton.

Stewart will take part in his final series of concerts in 2025 when he embarks on the One Last Time tour, which is scheduled to begin in March and will end in August. He will also perform at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace throughout March, May and June as part of his Las Vegas residency.

Stewart was previously forced to cancel the 200th performance of his residency.

“Most people can work with strep throat but obviously not me. I’m really heartbroken,” he said at the time.
