Rumored Apple+ documentary could highlight the legacy of Beatlemania

An upcoming documentary will explore the impact of The Beatles on American music, The Sun reports.

The British group, featuring Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon and George Harrison, became widely popular in the United States after a televised performance that attracted 73 million viewers, according to Nielsen.

According to Billboard, the band’s subsequent releases consistently topped the US charts.

The Sun reports that an upcoming documentary, tentatively titled “1964”, will explore how The Beatles influenced and inspired other British artists.

According to an anonymous source who spoke to The Sun, “Apple TV+ has a documentary looking back at their rise — and how the band paved the way for acts like the Rolling Stones when they found success in America.”

“Beatlemania was huge in Britain, but American fans were costing them dearly,” the source said.

They continued, “People will remember the frenzy that swept across America when The Beatles appeared, and the incredible scenes of thousands of teenagers flocking to see them perform wherever they went.”

In the British music world, only a handful have achieved significant success in the United States, including The Beatles. Other British acts who have become famous in America include the Spice Girls, Adele and Amy Winehouse.

A label insider revealed that the era depicted in the documentary will represent a pivotal moment in the music history archives. The insider described the upcoming documentary as a must-see for all music fans, not just the Beatles fan community.

While an official announcement has yet to be made, the network said the upcoming documentary about the “Let It Be” singers is scheduled to premiere around Thanksgiving on November 28.

The documentary comes shortly after reports confirmed that filmmaker Sam Mendes has been tapped to direct a biopic focusing on each member of the famous Fab Four.
