Famous Russian ballet dancer Vladimir Shklyarov has passed away at the age of 39.
The spokesman revealed that Shklyarov is believed to have fallen from the fifth floor balcony.
The spokeswoman, Anna Kasatkina, spoke to Russian media and told them that Shklyarov had been taking painkillers for a back injury and was scheduled to have spinal surgery on November 18, according to Guardian.
Since his death, a federal investigation has been underway to find the cause behind his death. However, investigators announced that the dancer’s death – “preliminary cause” – was considered an accident, RIA Novosti reported.
Shklyarov joined the famous Mariinsky Theater in 2003 and became “principal dancer”, the highest position in a ballet company.
The company spoke out about the passing of one of their own and shared a statement about his passing.
“We send our deepest condolences to the artist’s family, loved ones, friends and all those who admired his work and talent… he forever etched his name in history world ballet,” the announcement read Guardian.
During her famous career, this dancer starred in plays Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, Sleeping beauty in the forest, Don Quixote and Christopher Wheeldon Alice in Wonderland.In addition, he has performed all over the world, including stints at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City and the Royal Opera House in London.
He married dancer Maria Shirinkina in 2013 and has two children.
Shklyarov’s death comes after the dancer previously criticized Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in a now-deleted Instagram post from March 2022.

Dancer Irina Baranovskaya shed more light on his departure, saying that Shklyarov “went to the balcony to get some air and smoke” and “lost his balance” on the “very narrow balcony”.
