Sabrina Carpenter Reveals Her ‘Dangerous’ Phase With Zac Efron And How She Wrote ‘Espresso’

Sabrina Carpenter is getting real about her celebrity crushes. In a new interview with ‘W’ magazine, the 25-year-old singer revealed she had a crush on Zac Efron and shared a heartwarming encounter they had before she became famous.

In a video shared by ‘W’, Carpenter was asked about her celebrity crushes and she noted that she really admires a lot of female musicians like Miley Cyrus, Ariana Grande and of course Taylor Swift, who she opened for on tour. She then revealed that she had a crush on Efron around 2007, when he played Link Larkin in ‘Hairspray.’

“Oh my gosh, I had a really dangerous moment playing Zac Efron, when he played Link in ‘Hairspray,'” she admitted. “He was dancing and singing and obviously that’s my thing, I love hair and I was hooked.”

Carpenter actually met him when they both happened to be on the same beach on July 4 and it was an unforgettable experience.

“He’ll never remember this — I was a kid — and I saw him and I walked up to him and said, ‘I’m a big fan of your work,’ and he hugged me,” she recalled. “And I remember thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, he’s shirtless and he’s hugging me!’ I thought, ‘This is amazing. I’m never going to wash my body!'”

In an interview with the magazine, Carpenter also described how her hit single ‘Espresso’ came to be. She wrote the song while in France and opened for Swift on tour.

“I was in a ghost town with a little crepe shop down the street,” she said. “I had a shot of espresso, and then I might have had a little champagne, and before I knew it, the song was written.”

Referring to the song’s immense success, she added, “I definitely hear it in every car I drive, and to me, getting played on the radio is still like fate. You have to be in the right place at the right time.”

Carpenter has been coy about discussing the people her music is written about. The ‘Please Please Please’ singer is no stranger to speculation about her personal life, despite love triangles with Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett, as well as Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello.

“I understand why people are interested,” she said. “But they can listen to my album and decide for themselves what the songs are about.”
