early life
On February 14, Sambasa Nzeribe was born. Although he was born in Nigeria, the multi-talented actor and musician grew up in the Isoro community in Lagos State. He is a native of Anambra State, Nigeria.
He lost his father at a young age and grew up in difficult circumstances. His mother was a primary school teacher, but her income was not enough to support him (Sambasa) and his brothers.
Sambasa Nzeribe claims that he had to sell fufu, vegetables and puffs on the streets of Isolo to make money. When he was about to complete his secondary education, his mother died of uterine fibroids.
After his mother’s death, the Catholic Women’s Organization (CWO) provided training for him (and his siblings) through its orphan scholarship program. They sponsored him through secondary school until he graduated with a degree in Creative Arts from the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Sambatha Nzeribe’s mother was a choir member and drama director at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Isolo. He was a member of the church’s music and drama groups, which helped him develop a love and passion for the arts.
