Early Life
Selena Gomez‘s birth took place in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 22, 1992, to Ricardo Joel Gomez (father) and a Texas-born former stage actress called Mandy Teefey (mother).
She was named after a Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla, who passed away in 1995. Her father is of Mexican descent, whereas her mother, who was adopted, has a bit of Italian ancestry. Her paternal grandparents emigrated to Texas from Monterrey in the late 1970s.
She was fluent in Spanish until she was 7. Her parents divorced when she was five years old, but she remained with her mother.
