Selena Gomez Brings Taylor Swift’s Cat Lady Joke to the Emmys, Hilariously Teasing Co-Star

Selena Gomez poked fun at her “Only Murders in the Building” co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday night. The actress, who presented the first award of the evening alongside the comedy veterans, made a humorous remark that was well received by the audience.

While Short and Martin were exchanging light-hearted jokes about their age, Gomez chimed in with her own humorous commentary. “And let me just say, it’s an honor to work with two men who are not baby-less cat ladies,” she said, referring to the nickname JD Vance recently used for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The comment, which referenced Taylor Swift’s recent endorsement of Harris, using the phrase “childless cat lady,” sparked a variety of reactions, including one from Harris’ vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, who humorously referred to himself as a “cat lady friend” in tribute to Swift.

Gomez’s co-stars also took the opportunity to acknowledge her Emmy nomination, prompting her to ask if it was “awkward” that they were competing against each other in the same category. “I don’t think so,” Short replied. “Steve and I, obviously, both voted for you.”

Despite the competitive atmosphere, Gomez emphasized the spirit of the awards. “But the Emmys aren’t about who wins or who loses,” she remarked, drawing laughter from both Martin and Short.

The trio then presented the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series, which was awarded to Ebon Moss-Bachrach for his role in “The Bear”.

The 2024 Emmy Awards, broadcast live from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, celebrated achievements in television over the past year.
