Shaboozey is attracting supporters from all walks of life, including Lil Nas Shaboozey spent 18 weeks at the top of the charts. Billboard This year’s Hot 100 – failed to take home the Single of the Year award at the 2024 CMA on Wednesday (November 20).
Although “A Bar Song” was nominated in that category, it was edged out by Chris Stapleton’s “White Horse” for Single of the Year. Shaboozey was also nominated for New Artist of the Year, but he lost that CMA to Megan Moroney at the 58th Annual Country Music Association Awards held at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee.
To add insult to injury, Shaboozey was “barraged by transgressions that were treated as jokes” at the CMAs on Wednesday, as Rolling Stone wrote — like when his name was used as a joke to introduce a category for which he wasn’t even nominated.
“I got to tell you, this award is for the cowboy who’s been kicking Shaboozey for years,” producer Trent Willmon joked as Cody Johnson accepted the Album of the Year award.
“No one kicked me!” Shaboozey responded on social media, the quip accompanying a photo of him raising his hands in what appeared to be a humorous display of fake frustration. “Let’s keep doing it!!” Lil Nas X replied. “They can’t stop you!!” (See articles below.)
However, Shaboozey also said he was grateful. After all, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” came in at No. 1 above Billboardof Hot Country Songs, followed by Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em”, making it the first time two black artists have consecutively held the number one spot on that chart. (However, it’s Bey’s country music turn this year cowboy Carternot recognized by CMA.)
“In my wildest dreams, I could not have imagined I would be here,” Shaboozey conveyed in a series of follow-up posts. “I’m grateful for everything.” He also said, “Whether I win or lose, I am blessed by something or someone whose power is beyond my understanding.”

Continuing to exude positivity, Shaboozey said, “I’m here today hoping to live my purpose and if my music makes the slightest positive impact on someone’s life then I can died with a smile. Country music changed my life and I am forever grateful for it and for it.”
However, those who are dissatisfied with the CMA still express their opinions. Artist Breezy Supreme said: “The fact that Shaboozey hasn’t won a single Country Music Award despite holding the #1 country song for about 3 months in a row is proof that they don’t want someone black to be The face of country music.” on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (November 21).
