Shawn Mendes is opening up more than ever in a candid new interview.
The “Why Why” singer sat down with Zane Lowe at ‘Apple Music’ where he spoke about his new album, Shawn. During their conversation, the topic of Mendes’ sexuality came up, with the singer revealing that due to public speculation, he questioned who he was.
“When you have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people giving their opinions on who they think you are and why they think you are the way you are, the human brain is very fragile.
Mendes continued: “I’ve been reading what people think about me and it’s to the point where it makes me feel that way, is that true? Maybe because I talk like that or sit like that it means that way about me”.

The singer appeared on the show to promote his new album, released on November 15, which has become the subject of attention thanks to the song “The Mountain” on it. In the song, Mendes sings that his gender is no one’s business.
“You can say I’m too young/You can say I’m too old/You can say I like girls or boys/Whatever fits your stereotype,” he sings on the track.
When he released the song last month, Mendes said he still hadn’t “figured out” his sexuality.
“The real truth about my life and my sexuality is, man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone else,” he told the audience.
Mendes’ new album comes after former ‘American Idol’ star Clay Aiken was asked about Mendes’ sexuality while promoting his new Christmas album.
“I shouldn’t have eliminated him,” he said back.
“I love Christmas, but it’s starting earlier and earlier. Haven’t released an album in a while so doing press in general is new. By the way, is Shawn Mendes showing up today? Have you seen this video on His Instagram yet? I didn’t finish it because I looked at the time and I was like, ‘Oh my God, I have to get on the computer.’ So I don’t know if he really did, I shouldn’t have eliminated him if he didn’t,” Aiken added.
Mendes has long been the subject of rumors regarding his sexuality, but his new album seems to focus more on his famous life and tumultuous relationship with ex Camila Cabello.
“Two years since I held my baby tight Learning that my heart could break and that’s okay,” Mendes sings on “Rollin’ Right Together,” seemingly the time he and Cabello were apart .
The “Havana” singer decided to take a break before her ex released his album, announcing her withdrawal from social media hours before the release.
