David Shepard Smith Jr was born on January 14, 1996, in Holly Springs, Mississippi, United States.
His parents were Dora Ellen Anderson, an English teacher, and David Shepard Smith, a cotton merchant.
However, his parents separated while he was in high school, and he subsequently moved to Florida to live with his mother.
