Chicago-based rapper Chief Keef is one of the few hip-hop artists from the city who seems to have made it out unscathed, lending to a few hilarious memes on social media.

The “Love Sosa” rapper has had several run-ins with the law, including several probation violations and a 2017 arrest for beating and robbing producer Ramsay Tha Great. However, since then he has been able to maintain a trouble-free life, enjoying the fruits of his labor and his multi-million dollar fortune.

Meanwhile, his Chicago-rap peers are facing a tougher fate. Rapper Lil Reese was recently sentenced to five to 10 years after being arrested on domestic abuse charges. Lil Durk is also at odds with the law. He was arrested on Thursday and is currently being held without bail after reports that he ordered the murder of fellow rapper Quando Rondo.

While Keef is often considered representative of Chicago’s “Chiraq” gangsta rap culture, he has upped the game and elevated his lifestyle. He attributed this to his move to California in 2014, sharing with Noisy that escaping a toxic upbringing helped him become a more well-rounded person. His first performance in Chicago in more than 12 years was a welcome homecoming, although he had no intention of returning to his old lifestyle.

This sentiment has become a trending conversation on social media, with many praising Keef for forging such an intentional path.

The rapper has steadily risen through the industry, scoring his first major production credit for Lil Uzi Vert’s “Chrome Heart Tags.” He was later featured on Uzi’s “Bean (Kobe)”, which became his highest charting song on the Hot 100 at number 19. He currently lives in the Walnut Acres area of Woodland Hills, California.
