Sifu is a video game produced by French studio Sloclap. In the game, you control the son of a martial arts master seeking revenge for his father’s death. What’s unique about Sifu is that when your character dies, they are resurrected but age, gain more powerful moves, but lose health.

If your character gets too old and dies, you have to start the level over. The game was released on February 8, 2022, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Windows. It will be available on Nintendo Switch on November 8, 2022, and on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S on March 28, 2023. Sifu received critical acclaim for its combat, environment, and story, and quickly sold over 1 million copies within a month. of release.

Master game play

In Sifu, the gameplay is all about action and combat, with you controlling your character from a third-person perspective. It’s like a martial arts game inspired by White Eyebrow Kung Fu. There are over 150 different moves you can use in the game.

You can perform basic attacks and chain them together, and certain combinations let you do special things like knocking down or stunning enemies. Both your character and enemies have a special meter, and when the meter is full, their defenses are broken and you can perform finishing moves on them.

You can also block, but this fills up your meter, or you can dodge and parry enemy attacks. If you parry well, you can stun enemies or throw them in a certain direction. You can also use the environment and objects around you to fight or come up with new strategies.

When your character dies in the game, they are magically resurrected, but aged. As they age, they become stronger but less healthy. Eventually, they become too old to come back and the game is over. You can find shrines to heal and learn new skills, and you can visit a Kung Fu school to practice between levels.

When your character dies, you lose some abilities, but you permanently unlock upgrades that accompany you in each new game. As you play more, you gain access to a “detective board” that tracks information across different gameplay sessions and may open secret areas and shortcuts. Sometimes, you can even choose what to say in a conversation, which can help you avoid arguments based on your words.

master plot

The plot of “The Master” follows a martial arts student named Yang who, along with four other fighters, attack their former martial arts school, resulting in the death of their teacher. However, the master’s children, the protagonists of the game, survived thanks to a special amulet that brought them back to life, but each death made them older.

After eight years of training and gathering intelligence, the child grew into a skilled martial artist and took revenge on Yang and others. The story unfolds as the protagonist hunts down and defeats each of Yang’s former allies, each possessing unique powers.

In the end, during the confrontation with Yang, the child learned what his master had done and the importance of martial arts ethics. The game offers two possible endings: one in which the children are trapped in an infinite loop if they kill their enemies, and another in which they gain enlightenment by sparing their enemies and eventually become a martial arts teacher.
