Early life
Siza Mzimela says she is the second to last child of her parents.
She had ten siblings, five boys and five girls, and was born into a family of eleven children.
Her parents raised her in South Africa, but she was raised by her brother in Swaziland.
At first, her brother moved to the countryside to study. After graduating, he settled down in the countryside.
He then took on the responsibility of supporting several of his siblings.
Education
Siza Mzimela received her education in her new country after moving in with her brother. Upon completing her studies, she returned to South Africa.
Siza Mzimela obtained her Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Statistics from the University of Eswatini.
She also studied at the Global Institute of Business Studies (GIBS) at the University of Pretoria.

Career
Siza Mzimela started working as a research analyst for South African Airways (SAA), the country’s flagship airline, in January 1996.
She was then promoted to CEO, overseeing global sales and SAA’s Voyager loyalty program, a position she held for two years, from April 2010 to October 2012.
Siza Mzimela also served on the board of directors of the International Air Transport Association in Miami, Florida and held many other important roles.
She assumed the position of interim CEO of South African Express in 2017 after being appointed to the position. Siza Mzimela was appointed CEO of Transnet’s freight rail division in April 2020.
Siza Mzimela was Executive Vice President of Global Passenger Services at SSA for one year, from 2001 to 2002. She became Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Voyager at SSA the following year, from 2002 to 2003.

More opportunities arose during her seven years in the new position. From 2003 to 2010, she served as CEO of SSA.
She was hired as CEO of SSA in the same year 2010. In 2012, she left after two years of service.
In December 2012, Siza Mzimela became Executive Chairman of Blue Crane Aviation and held this position until May 2018.
Airlines
Siza Mzimela and former SSA colleagues Theunis Potgieter and Jerome Simelane teamed up to create something meaningful.
Together, they founded Fly Blue Crane on September 1, 2015, and the company became a huge hit in just a year. Eventually, the company grew to employ over a hundred people.
In 2016, the airline was unable to pay its debts and had to cease operations in February 2017.
