Early life
William Henry “Smush” Parker was born on June 1, 1981 in Brooklyn to William “Bill” Henry Parker II and Robin Royal Parker. He went to Newtown High School in Elmhurst, Queens, where he was a standout guard on the college basketball team.
He then enrolled as a freshman at College of Southern Idaho during the 1999-2000 season before transferring to Fordham University to play college basketball. He entered the NBA in 2002 after his sophomore season at Fordham University but was cut.
Professional career
Parker did not have to leave college, but he was signed by the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2002–03 season. Parker appeared in 66 games and averaged 6.2 points and 2.5 assists in a season with the Cavaliers.
In 2003, he signed with Aris Thessaloniki of the Greek League, where he was successful and helped lead the team to the 2004 Greek Basketball Cup. Parker returned to the NBA after a season abroad, playing for the Detroit Pistons and Phoenix Suns.
Parker did not stay in the NBA long. After two seasons with the Lakers, he signed with the Miami Heat in 2007. He appeared in only 9 games for the Heat, averaging 4.8 points per game. Parker returned to Los Angeles the following season to play for the Clippers.
