Snow fell in the Saudi Arabian desert for the first time in history

RIYADH: Climate change is happening right before our eyes. On one hand, as colder countries are experiencing heat waves, the Al-Jawf desert in Saudi Arabia had its first snowfall in history.

Arab countries, including Saudi Arabia, are traditionally classified as deserts and hot zones. However, in recent times, many Arab countries, including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, have not only experienced heavy rain and hail but also greener landscapes and even snowfall.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) National Meteorological Center issued a statement on the snowfall saying the unusual weather phenomenon was caused by low temperature pressure in the Arabian Sea.

In a country where temperatures are often recorded at 55 degrees Celsius, the appearance of frost makes people equally comfortable and worried.

The sight of snowfall is pleasant for people, but it also puts the country in a position of having to make arrangements to cope with the new climate.

Earlier this year, many areas in the UAE including Dubai and Sharjah suffered heavy flooding after the heaviest rain in 75 years in the area.
