Early life and education
Sonya Curry was born on May 30, 1966 in Radford, Virginia, United States. Adams is Sonya’s maiden name and she is of mixed descent.

Her parents are African-American with Haitian heritage. Sonya Curry was raised by her mother, Candy Adams, along with her siblings, Cleive Adams and India Adams. Her father’s name is Cleive Ester Adams.
After graduating from Radford High School, Sonya Curry won state volleyball and basketball championships.
Career
During her college years, she preferred volleyball to basketball. Sonya Curry was a member of the Virginia Tech Athletic Club. Throughout her school years, she was always the best player on her school team.
Her results throughout Virginia Tech Sports were excellent, as she posted a 69-70 record by the end of her fourth year. She was also named to the All-Metro Team. She earned a degree in family studies with a minor in elementary education.
Sonya Curry made the most of her degree despite giving up her athletic career to support her family. Extending her love of humanity, she and her husband founded the Christian Montessori School in Lake Norman in 1995.
The school is developed with a strong passion for the all-round development of the students. Children from 15 months to six years of age can enroll in the school.

While attending Virginia Tech, Sonya Curry met Dell Curry, the man who would later become her husband. Dell Curry played basketball for Virginia Tech, and Sonya Curry’s coach once invited him to watch one of her games.
They started dating after the game ended and that same year they got married and had a child.
Sonya Curry remained with him until Seth Curry was born in 1990, attending all of his matches. She eventually settled down, focused on being a stay-at-home mom, and began raising her children full-time with the birth of their second son. In August 2021, they divorced and announced it to the public.
Sonya Curry and Dell Curry’s marriage is blessed with three children: Stephen Curry, Sydel Curry, and Seth Curry. She is the grandmother of Riley Elizabeth Curry, Canon W. Jack Curry, and Ryan Carson Curry.
