WEBSITE: The second season of Squid Game is finally over, but fans are still left hanging on a major character, making it feel like we’re only getting half the story.
Good news? We won’t have to endure another three years of waiting for Squid Game season 3. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk and Netflix have made sure there are no breaks in production, meaning season 3 is closer you think.
The show’s popularity has spread beyond Korea and in Pakistan, it has become a notable phenomenon. Just like Money Heist, Squid Game has won the hearts of Pakistani audiences, who are now eagerly waiting to see what happens next in season 3.
We were initially told to expect Squid Game season 3 in 2025, which left some fans worried that there might be a long wait, perhaps until Christmas. But in a recent interview with Variety, Hwang shared some exciting news – the new season could come much sooner, possibly within six to 11 months.
He said: “After season 2 comes out, I believe we will soon announce the release date of season 3. I think it might come out around summer or fall next year.” So it’s not too far!
Regarding the plot, we will talk about Gi-hun, the main character, who hit rock bottom after losing everything, including his best friend.
Squid Game Season 3 will explore his emotional journey, and the big question will be whether he continues his mission or gives up. Gi Hun will be at an important turning point and it will be interesting to see how he overcomes it.
Part 2 introduces some intriguing side stories, like the police officer who sneaks onto the island and the guard who tries to stop the organ harvesting. But these subplots don’t play out completely, leaving many questions unanswered.
Chances are, we’ll see these threads connected in season 3. And if you count the games, season 2 only has three of the expected six games, meaning we’re in for plenty of challenges. More fierceness to come.
Hwang also shared the reason why parts 2 and 3 were divided. He explained that the story was originally planned as a series, but as he developed the plot, it became clear that it was too much to fit into a single installment.
Gi-hun’s failed attempt to start a rebellion becomes an important turning point and it makes sense to divide the story into two parts.
So, although the waiting time for part 3 won’t be too short, it won’t be too long either – about 6 to 12 months. It will definitely be worth the wait, especially as we are about to return to the fierce world of Squid Game.
