Unlike other space exploration games like No Man’s Sky, Starfield requires multiple scans of a single plant or animal before it can be officially recognized as discovered. Here’s how to do it:

• Activate the scanner: To start the scanning process, press LB on the controller or “F” on the keyboard to start the scanner.

The tracker on the left side of the scanner will also increase by one, indicating that you have successfully registered the plant and animal species surveyed for that planet. Data related to this species will be displayed with a green banner.

If you have discovered all the flora and fauna within a specific biome, a green notification will appear stating “Biome Complete.” This means you need to return to space and explore different areas to discover new biomes.
