Sum 41 Cancels Tour Because Deryck Whibley Is ‘Too Unwell To Perform’ In Australia

Sum 41 have announced that they will be canceling their Australian tour due to Deryck Whibley’s health.

The team made the announcement on Facebook and shared that Whibley had been hospitalized with pneumonia.

“It is with great sadness and regret that we announce that our 2024 Australian tour cannot go ahead,” the since-deleted post read. News.com.au.

In their statement, they added that Whibley was “under the guidance and direction of multiple Australian doctors” and that the cancellation was due to “Deryck being too unwell to perform.

Sum 41 had intended to disband following their current Tour of the Setting Sum tour, scheduled to end in January 2025. The Australian dates were set to be the band’s last of the year.

The group is expected to co-headline the Good Things Festival in Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney this weekend. The festival has since shared in a post to Instagram that “Deryck’s health and wellbeing is a focus and priority.”

The festival will continue with Korn still headlining the event.

Earlier this year, Whibley published her memoir Walking disasterwhich claimed that the group’s former manager, Greig Nori, had sexually abused him.

The rock star claims the abuse began when he was 16 and Nori was 34. Whibley claimed that during one incident, Nori cornered him in the bathroom and kissed him “passionately”. He went on to claim that he was manipulated by his manager and was called homophobic if he did not respond.

Whibley claimed that the #MeToo movement helped him understand what happened to him. While Nori denied these claims, Whibley later hit back at his denial.

“I am not a liar, and I will speak to you directly, Greig Nori. If you think I am a liar, there is only one way to solve this – under oath. In front of the judge, before face of the jury, anytime you want, I’m ready whenever you want,” he said through Everybody.

Nori was fired from the band in 2005 after Whibley urged them to do so. At the time, they said they broke up amicably.
