LOS ANGELES: Hollywood will kick off its 2025 awards show on Sunday at the annual Golden Globes, where films such as “Wicked,” “The Brutalist” and “Emilia Perez” vie for honors and recognition. pay attention before the Oscars.

Competitors include “Conclave” about the selection of a pope and two films starring Chalamet – the Bob Dylan biopic “A Complete Unknown” and the sci-fi epic “Dune – Part II”.

Unlike the Oscars, musicals and comedies compete in a separate category at the Golden Globes. Nominations in that field include the box office hit “Wicked” and the dark romantic comedy “Anora.”

Winning the Globes could help the films up for the Oscars in March. “If a film or actor takes home the award,” said Scott Feinberg, awards executive editor at The Hollywood Reporter, Globe, “that would increase the likelihood that members of the motion picture academy would see that project.”

Feinberg predicts that The Brutalist or Conclave will win the drama award at the Globes. The music or comedy categories are more difficult to judge because the nominees are so different, he said.

“Emilia Perez,” a musical thriller, tells the story of a Mexican drug lord who transitions from male to female. “Wicked,” a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” was adapted from a popular Broadway play.

“Anora,” about a prostitute who marries the son of a Russian oligarch, is more of a traditional comedy while “The Substance” stars Demi Moore as a celebrity fading away in search of the fountain of youth, is essentially a horror movie, Feinberg said.

“That (category) is everywhere,” Feinberg said.

The Golden Globe winner is chosen by 334 entertainment journalists from 85 countries, compared with about 9,000 voters who choose the Academy Awards. The Globes’ voting body has expanded in recent years and organizers have instituted reforms after being criticized for ethical lapses and a lack of diversity.

In the television categories, restaurant story “The Bear” leads the Golden Globe nominations, followed by mystery comedy “Only Murders in the Building” and historical epic “Shogun.”
