Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris.
Swift announced that she will vote for Harris and running mate Tim Walz in the upcoming November election in an Instagram post shared just minutes after the first debate between the vice president and former president Donald Trump concluded on Tuesday night.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential election,” the pop superstar wrote in his lengthy statement.
Swift went on to explain that she supports Harris “because she fights for rights and causes that I believe need a warrior to defend them.”
“I think she’s a strong, talented leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we lead with calm, not chaos,” the “Cruel Summer” singer continued. “I’m thrilled and inspired by her choice of running mate @timwalz, who has been fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women’s rights over their own bodies for decades.”
She also encouraged her 283 million followers to register to vote.
“I did my research and I made my choice,” Swift continued. “Your research is all you have to do, and the choice is yours. I also want to say, especially to first-time voters: Remember, in order to vote, you have to register! I also found that voting early is much easier. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and information in my story.”
Swift ended her statement by signing off as “childless cat lady.”
Her post also included a photo from her 2023 Person of the Year photoshoot for Time magazine, in which she posed with one of her cats, Benjamin Button.
The “Anti-Hero” singer criticized Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance, who faced backlash for saying in 2021 that “childless cat ladies” were running the country.
Swift previously endorsed President Joe Biden and Harris about a month before the 2020 election.
