Taylor Swift exonerated: Group denies claims about singer’s involvement in relocating homeless people during Eras Scotland tour

Ahead of Taylor Swift’s The Eras tour in Edinburgh, Scotland, efforts were reportedly made to remove homeless people from the area to make room for Swifties.

However, an organization campaigning to address this injustice has decided not to place responsibility on the pop star.

Alison Watson, director of Shelter Scotland, told TMZ that the capital could host a significant event without negatively impacting the homeless community. Despite this stance, Watson emphasized that the organization has no grievances against Swift.

On the contrary, her statement highlights the tendency to blame “decades of underinvestment in social housing”.

The 14-time Grammy Award winner is expected to travel to Edinburgh, where she will perform for three consecutive nights at Murrayfield Stadium as part of her world tour.

The area’s homeless population, who often benefit from temporary tourist accommodation, is now believed to have been relocated outside the city to accommodate the expected surge in visitors.

Shelter Scotland is deeply concerned about the impact of this situation, fearing it could set a worrying precedent ahead of the city’s next major event, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Watson previously said in a statement: “A family experiencing the pain of homelessness in Edinburgh should not have to travel miles from their work, school and community to find emergency accommodation. “

“At a time when the City of Edinburgh Council declared a housing emergency and the Scottish Housing Authority said the city’s homeless services were experiencing systemic failure, We need a different response from the Scottish Government.”

Tourists are now getting preferential treatment, which is not surprising given the significant financial contributions of Swifties through their spending on accommodation, dining and travel.

A lack of accommodation for homeless people in Edinburgh during The Eras tour in June was blamed on the “housing crisis” by Edinburgh City Council.

However, in response to concerns, local officials clarified that they were not moving homeless people to accommodate fans. They highlighted the challenges in securing housing for the homeless, which was caused by the increased need for accommodation during the “Fortnight” singer’s events in the city.

Expected by tens of thousands of spectators, Swift will captivate audiences with three outstanding performances at Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on June 7, 8 and 9, 2024.
