CNN’s Salma Abdelaziz spoke with the head of Austria’s Security Service, Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, about new developments surrounding one of the suspects arrested this week for allegedly planning to attack a Taylor Swift concert in Vienna.
At a press conference with the Interior Ministry, Haijawi-Pirchner revealed that the 17-year-old suspect had gained entry to the stadium after being hired to work there just days before the concert.
“One of the suspects received a job application a few days ago to find a service company that is currently preparing for a concert at the stadium,” Haijawi-Pirchner said.
Abdelaziz asked if the suspect worked at the stadium: “So he applied for a job but there was no job at the stadium?”
Haijawi-Pirchner replied: “He had it. He was in the stadium yesterday so when we arrested him he was already in the stadium.”
Officials also said it was likely that the suspects not only planned to attack the stadium with explosives, but also had a follow-up plan to ram some fans with their vehicles.
“They were operating on the assumption that maybe a car would be used to run over some Swifty fans who were outside because thousands of them were expected to be outside the stadium. This is really shocking and disappointing for Swifty fans.”
