Taylor Swift’s ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Reclaims No. 1 After Eminem Ends 12-Week Chart Domination

Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” has returned to the top of the Billboard 200 chart, marking the album’s 13th non-consecutive week at No. 1.

After its April release, Swift’s 11th album topped the Billboard album chart for 12 weeks until Eminem’s “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)” surpassed “Tortured Poets” in late July. Her album dropped to number four for two weeks.

According to Luminate, “Tortured Poets” reclaimed the No. 1 spot on the chart with 71,000 equivalent album units sold in the United States in the week ending August 1.

Billboard reports that Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” is the last album to hold the No. 1 spot for at least 13 weeks. The album spent 19 non-consecutive weeks at the top of the chart from March 2023 to March of this year.

Swift made the jump to a 14th week atop the chart with the limited-time “TTPD” version available with the “First Draft Phone Memo” version of “My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys.”

Before Eminem’s 12th album dethroned “Tortured Poets,” Swift’s album surpassed the record held by Whitney Houston’s “Whitney” for the longest consecutive weeks at No. 1 for an album by a female artist. Houston’s 1987 album topped the chart for 11 weeks before falling off the chart.

On the most recent Billboard 200, Chappell Roan’s “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” climbed from No. 8 to No. 4, marking the album’s highest position. Meanwhile, Stray Kids fell from No. 1 to No. 6 with their new album “ATE.”

Meanwhile, Zach Bryan’s “Great American Bar Scene” ranked third, while Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” climbed to No. 2. Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft” completed the top five.

Charli XCX’s “Brat” also returns to the top 10, rising from No. 14 to No. 9.
