Cole said it on his mixtape Boot to boot abandoned, the tour he was on began to be attended by more and more people. After that, he started to become known to the public and people started quoting his songs to him, especially “In the Morning”.
“A grown man would ask, ‘Can I hit it in the morning?’” Cole recalls. “And I’d say, ‘Um… I appreciate that love, but it’s weird to say. I should have chosen another song, ‘Who Da’ or something.”
He also talked about Drake reaching out to him after hearing an early version of “In the Morning.”
Drake reportedly told Cole that he sent the producer home because the song made him realize that he “needed[ed] better rhythm.”

“You can hear his voice, you can tell. That sounds harsh, though. That n—- killed that thing,” Cole said of the song.
