Popular K-pop group The Boyz have responded to rumors that they will be leaving their management company IST Entertainment after their contract expires.
On September 23, a Korean media outlet reported that The Boyz may be leaving their agency. The agency stated that the group members have decided not to renew their contracts with IST Entertainment and have begun searching for new management companies to call home in the future.
According to Pink VillaThe group has shifted its focus from working with IST Entertainment to a new music company that better fits their musical ideals. They are also said to be seeking more transparent management in their new contracts.
Despite the new report, IST Entertainment has released a statement on the situation as they shared that they are still in discussions with the members of The Boyz regarding future music releases.
“The Boyz’s exclusive contract has not yet expired. We plan to continue discussions with the members,” the label said via Soompi.
While it’s still unclear where The Boyz will go, the Korea Entertainment Management Association has regulations that allow artists and groups to begin discussions with new management companies three months before their contracts expire.
One possible negative term could be their name, as The Boyz is owned by IST Entertainment. So in order for them to keep the name, the label would have to sell or license them the rights to it. However, nothing has been confirmed at this time.
News of them possibly looking for new management comes as they prepare to release new music in October. Their most recent album was Meaninglessreleased in July.
