Tony Buzbee, the lawyer who recently filed a rape lawsuit against Jay-Z, is arguing with a previous client who claims he behaved like a loan shark and was unprofessional as a legal representative. for a personal injury case.
Matthew Ray Thompson Jr. filed a lawsuit against Buzbee in federal court Monday, saying the attorney violated an agreement reached with the man who was injured while doing deck work.
The incident occurred in July 2023 when Thompson’s boat crashed into a barge in the Houston Ship Channel.
Based entirely on court documents obtained by TMZ, Thompson hired Buzbee to file a lawsuit in a courtroom in November 2023. They filed this lawsuit to initiate automatic payments to Thompson from his employer while the case was being brought.

He claimed that instead of giving him the full settlement amount, Buzbee loaned him money from his own bank account at high interest rates.
“Buzbee has grown rich by milking settlements with the threat of attracting negative attention from people who rely on their public reputation to make a living,” Thompson said in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit comes on the heels of a public spat between Buzbee and rapper Jay-Z, who criticized Buzbee on social media for allegedly taking advantage of customers. According to TMZ, although Thompson did not name or mention Jay-Z or other public figures in his lawsuit, his claims were similar to views expressed by the rapper.
Buzbee has not yet responded to a request for comment on the allegations.
